Nima Zaare Nahandi | "Cosa Mentale": Solo Exhibition
TEHRAN — January 18, 2016. Dastan+2 is pleased to invite you to the opening of Nima Zaare Nahandi’s solo exhibition entitled “Cosa Mentale” on January 22. The exhibition will be open for public viewing through February 13. This is Nima Zaare Nahandi’s first solo exhibition in Dastan. Nima Zare Nahandi (b. 1983, Tehran) has a penchant for methodical approach to artistic creation. He starts his works with research and analytically finds his way through his expressional concerns. Each period of his works takes a set of particular subjects and processes them through the perceptive outlook of his approach. His reference to Leonardo da Vinci’s famous quote, “pittura è una cosa mentale”*, serves as an articulation of his firm belief in method, analysis and study in artistic practice. Graduating from the prestigious École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris, and spending a two-year-long art residency at the prominent Casa de Vèlazquez in Madrid, he developed his personal style and philosophy. His delicate technique and ultra-fine details, like his approach to his subjects, develop over time, in instances taking over months of continuous work to evolve into the final oeuvre. Marking his first solo exhibition, Nima’s current series of works, “Cosa Mentale” (2010-2015), present contemplative images to invoke a strand of ideas and initiate a thought-process in the mind of the viewer. At first sight, his works can be thought of as narratives, but a deeper analysis unveils an alternative world in which images think ideas, and ideas think thoughts. * Painting is a mental occupation
